This list is drawn from the ENABLE word list — the Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon, a 173,000-word public-domain dictionary that is the de-facto standard for North American word games (Scrabble Tournament Word List, Words With Friends, etc.). Puzzle Cottage’s dictionary uses the 1–8 letter subset (~80,000 words) for word-validation in Word Scramble and Anagram Race.
Words flagged as predominantly proper nouns (HARRY, PETER, JIMMY, etc.) are filtered out — technically valid in Scrabble, but most players read them as names and feel cheated when they’re accepted in word games. Common nouns that double as names (HOLLY, DOLLY, PENNY) stay.
